Today I'd like to remind you how important it is to vote this November in Houston. As always, there are some important issues that must be decided, and I'd like to encourage you to vote for Proposition 1.
So, what does state Proposition 1 do? It increases the homestead exemption on your school district taxes from $15,000 to $25,000. That's kind of a no-brainer.
The second thing this proposition will do is provide tax relief to seniors and disabled veterans. This is currently frozen, so we must unfreeze the legislation to increase the tax relief, and then we must also freeze it again to ensure these people are being helped.
This measure will also prevent local governments from undoing the property tax relief that the state offers.

However, the most important thing of all is that it prohibits state and local sales tax on homes. You heard that right, there are states that put a sales tax on the sale of your home. That's something that would increase your expenses when you sell your home. This isn't going to help anybody!
So, please go out and vote for proposition 1. Everyone stands to lose something if this legislation isn't passed!
